Il film è incentrato su un gruppo di giovani e combattivi piloti francesi; Bernard Fau, René Guili, Gilles Husson, Tchernine Thierry, Jean-Claude Meilland e in particolare i compianti Patrick Pons e Michel Rougerie. Le eccezionali interviste ai piloti descrivono il loro stato d'animo nel corso della stagione. The motorcycling documentary Le Cheval de Fer is a French film by Pierre-William Glenn released in 1974 and re-released in 2004 on a DVD. It covers the 1974 MotoGP season and gives us a few shots and interviews with racing legends like Giacomo Agostini, Barry Sheene, Phil Read, Mike Hailwood and Kenny Roberts. However, the film focuses on a group of young and struggling French riders that include Bernard Fau, René Guili, Gilles Husson, Tchernine Thierry, Jean-Claude Meilland and especially the late Patrick Pons and Michel Rougerie. The amazing interviews with the riders depict their state of mind during the whole season. Dramatic scenes of crashes, overtakes and almost outlandish ability to control the racing machines of Yamaha, MV Agusta, Harley Davidson, Suzuki and many other manufacturers will leave the viewer breathless. The film brings its viewers closer into the world of racing as it once was, but it also gives a glimpse towards the near future where big and heavy money-making companies take over the leading role.

The Cheval de Fer is truly an important piece of motorcycling history caught on tape and should not be missed by any true motorcycling fan.
